How to choose a laboratory bath or thermostat
- Temperature range and medium. OvanTherm H water baths operate up to 100°C, while the oil versions reach 200°C. Heating-only versions need a setpoint above ambient temperature. For operation below ambient, select active cooling, such as the OvanTherm C thermostat with its 0–100°C range. The medium must suit the target temperature.
- Capacity and sample space. OvanTherm H baths with steel tanks come in 12, 20, 27 and 45 l sizes. Compare the usable dimensions with the vessels and racks: nominal capacity alone does not determine their arrangement.
- Watching the samples. OvanTherm H CLEAR has a transparent Plexiglas tank, with 8–27 l versions operating up to 60°C. It is an option when visual access matters, provided its lower maximum temperature suits the process.
- Complete bath or a head for a vessel? An OvanTherm immersion thermostat can be matched to a suitable tank. Confirm mounting, immersion depth, medium and circulation requirements. The manufacturer specifies a maximum of 20 l for the standard TC00E refrigerated head; larger complete OvanTherm C baths need the appropriate refrigeration configuration.
